The Kuwaiti Women's Associations Union announced the commencement of the advanced training program on the mechanisms for protecting women's rights in Switzerland in collaboration with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights. The program is part of the capacity-building project in the field of human rights and will run from September 24th to 29th, 2023.
Sheikha Fadia Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Union's Board of Directors, stated that this training program is in line with the Union's strategy and program to defend human rights, citizenship, and good human values, as well as to promote human rights.
Sheikha Fadia explained that the course program includes a review of United Nations human rights indicators to measure progress in implementing human rights standards and commitments. It also focuses on the capabilities of the Kuwaiti Women's Associations Union in advocating for women's rights and the role of the United Nations Special Rapporteur responsible for eliminating violence against women.
She highlighted that the training program, which falls under the common cooperation agreement aimed at promoting and protecting women's rights and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, covers various aspects of the human rights report formulation process. It emphasizes its crucial role in the human rights monitoring cycle, starting from methodological considerations to information collection, verification, and finally, quality control.
Sheikha Fadia mentioned that this training course coincides with the activities of the 54th session of the Human Rights Council and the 74th session of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. These events include discussions on Palestine's periodic report, enhancing the trainees' benefit through their attendance and participation in the discussions.
The goal of the training program is to provide a comprehensive understanding of international mechanisms for protecting women's rights and to enhance the capabilities of the Union's members. It aims to activate and strengthen women's societal role, support their position, and develop their capabilities to promote communication and cooperation with United Nations institutions responsible for monitoring and protecting human rights.
