Chairwoman’s Speech

The word of the chairwoman of the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations,

Sheikha Fadia Saad Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah

Following the liberation of Kuwait from the heinous Iraqi aggression, serious and sincere thought was given to unifying the efforts of women's public welfare associations that provide services to families in general and women in particular. The need for an entity to unify these efforts, represent these organizations abroad, elevate the status of women, and promote solidarity among women's associations became apparent. Thus, the serious work to establish the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations began, with the aim of achieving solidarity among women's associations, defending their interests, coordinating on various occasions, building effective partnerships, strengthening connections with Gulf, Arab, continental, and international federations operating in the field of women's activities. The Union also aimed to represent these associations at local and international forums, participate in conferences and seminars held by similar bodies domestically and internationally.

The tremendous efforts made by the Union's founder and honorary president, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, culminated in the establishment of the Union in 1994. The Union's purpose was to empower and support Kuwaiti women and inspire more women in the journey of sustainable development through various means and in all local, regional, and international fields. This was achieved through programs, projects, and initiatives supervised and endorsed by the Union, along with significant partnerships and high-caliber individuals, all aimed at empowering and supporting Kuwaiti women in various fields.

Since its inception, the Union has witnessed remarkable achievements by Kuwaiti women, surpassing many women in the Gulf and Arab regions. This aligns with the Union's approach to empower women in politics, culture, economy, society, law, and education. These achievements continue thanks to the dedicated efforts of members working diligently to elevate the status of Kuwaiti women across various domains.

During its developmental journey, the Union has successfully forged numerous collaborations, signing agreements and memoranda of understanding with local, Gulf, Arab, and international organizations. This has served Kuwaiti families and women in various fields, positioning them at the forefront of different workplaces, activating their roles, maximizing their responsibilities, and achieving milestones such as the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations obtaining consultative status with the United Nations in 2000.

I am hopeful that the Union's foundation and efforts will continue, leading to further accomplishments. These accomplishments will contribute to the participation of member associations in shaping policies that support developmental plans and achieve leadership for our beloved Kuwait.
