In accordance with the esteemed Cabinet's decision to adopt May 16th of each year as "Kuwaiti Women's Day," the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations, under the leadership of Sheikha Fadia Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, held a press conference to shed light on the conference's events, its topics, and its social, cultural, and national dimensions. The conference also included the honoring of a group of women pioneers in public and social voluntary work. She explained that May 16th represents a bright milestone in the history of Kuwaiti women, embodying great confidence in their ability to bear responsibility and make a significant contribution to the continued journey of progress and development
The Chairwoman of the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations pointed out that the date of the celebration holds symbolic significance, as it coincides with the issuance of the historic decree on May 16, 2005, granting Kuwaiti women full political rights, including the right to run for and vote in elections. This marked a significant milestone in the country's history in general, and for women in particular.
She added that Women's Day will serve as an occasion for appreciation, honoring a group of society's leading ladies and pioneers in public and voluntary work. This is in recognition of their efforts, their national and humanitarian roles, and their rich history of voluntary work and contributions to supporting the women's movement and defending their rights and achievements.
